Vietnam Women's Volleyball Squad Crisis Ahead of Asiad 20: A Daunting Puzzle for Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet

When the final whistle of the Vietnam women's volleyball team's last match at the 2026 Asian Championship sounded, the face of Head Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet could not hide his exhaustion. What is notable is that the team is facing a paradox: between the commercial value of a major tournament like Asiad and the actual professional value of the current squad. Forcing two teenage players into a top-tier tournament might bring media benefits, but tactically, it is a high-risk gamble. They might be chosen for their defensive skills rather than attacking power, but that means the team will lose sharpness in offense. I used to think being doubted was a scratch; it turns out it is sharpening. For Vietnam's women's volleyball, this crisis could be an opportunity for Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet to experiment with new options, rebuild a defense-first style, and capitalize on transition chances. But it would be unrealistic to expect a surprising result in Japan. The question is whether this preparation is enough for longer-term goals at SEA Games 33 and beyond, towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers. In Kazan that night, I no longer believed in what I thought; I believed in what I verified. For now, all fans can do is wait for the official roster and trust the careful calculations of the coaching staff.
